EPIC 2015

Recently my class watched the short video EPIC 2015 in class and were then asked to write a post about it. The first half of the video explains the build up of the internet and some of the early advancements made by it, but then when they pass the years 2002-2004 the video becomes more fictional. Even though I did not use the internet very often during the "true" section of the video I could tell when it was starting to become fictional just by the company, website, and product names. This is the primary reason why I say the video becomes fictional around 2002-2004.

Among the things that are true or I believe are true:
- Tim Berners-Lee inventing WWW
-Creation of Amazon
-Creation of Blogger
-Friendster
-Gmail's creation
-Microsofts creation

Things that are false or I believe are false:
-Google Grid 2006
-Googlezon
-New York times becoming online paid subscrition
-Microsoft vs. Googlezon
-New York Times vs. Googlezon

Creating my First HTML Page

Recently the class I am in was tasked with creating our own webpages using HTML. I have not done anything like this in the past but after hearing that the format of HTML is similar to coding I was able to understand the basic format.

Because of this I was able to create a simple webpage which was able to serve its purpose. This is probably because I did not try to get fancy with its design. The only things that I really messed up on is how my image would be immediately followed by the URL where I got the image from, which I could not figure out how to remove. Otherwise, I only had a few simple errors which took a quick run-through to locate and solve.

Now that I have a firmer grip on the functions of HTML I may try to make another, more complex page in the future.

The Postal Service and the Imergeance of Email

Despite the post office and physical mail becoming a less and less viable method of communication with the creation of email, both have their fair share of similarities as well as differences from one another.

Similarities:

  • One of the more obvious things that ties postal mail and email together is that they are both delivered to a specific address. Postal mail is sent to an individuals street address where email is sent to an online address which belongs to the recipient.
  • Another easily notable point is that both serve the exact same purpose but over different mediums.
  • Both are means by which companies can send an individual junk mail which is of no use to the one receiving it. Thankfully email has reached the point of removing anything detected as junk mail so you don't have to.
  • Postal mail and email are capable of containing files, data, photos and other important information.
  • When postal mail is sent it will be delivered to your areas post office where it will be sorted and sent to the area marked on the envelope whereas email is sent electronically to your specific email service (gmail, yahoo, etc.) and then electronically sent to the email service the person you are sending it to uses, and from there it reaches its destination.
Differences:
  • Email is not physical while postal male is physical.
  • To send a letter so somebody through postal mail you need to spend money on stamps whereas email can be sent for pretty close to free.
  • There can be slight errors with the address or name of the person receiving the letter through postal mail but may still receive the letter. Email on the other hand needs to be specific or else it either will not send or you may send it to some random person in China.
  • There is a slightly better chance that your postal mail wont be read by the U.S. government without permission (DID SOMEBODY SAY CONSPIRACY!?!?).
